Surface preparation

Surface preparation: blasting to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1) or mechanical cleaning to St 3; then primer and topcoat.

Thickness as dry film (µm). Emsal standard; binding values are set by the order specification.

Service temperature

The epoxy-polyurethane system is typically good up to 120 °C in dry heat. Higher temperatures (external surface of steam lines) require silicone-based heat-resistant paint.

Emsal assessment. The final choice is made from corrosion tables, taking concentration, temperature, chloride content and flow velocity into account.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Can be applied to any geometry and to large parts
  • Free choice of colour (RAL)
  • Easy touch-up and repair
  • The polyurethane topcoat does not fade under UV

Weaknesses

  • Thickness and quality depend on the applicator
  • Inadequate for immersed and buried service
  • Requires drying time

Manufacturing and use

ECONOMY
Low to medium.
