dm³ (litres)
Boyle's law at constant temperature (isothermal): compressed volume = free volume × patm / (pgauge + patm). Compressor output (free air delivery, FAD) is compared with tank and pipework volumes using this relationship.

How to read it
- Gauge pressure (barg) is measured relative to the atmosphere; this is what pressure gauges show. Absolute pressure (bara) is measured relative to vacuum; steam tables and gas calculations use it.
- kg/cm² (at, technical atmosphere) is old but still common on site; 1 kg/cm² = 0.980665 bar. psi is the US unit; 1 bar = 14.504 psi.
- mmH₂O (millimetres of water column) is used for low pressures (fans, flues, filter differentials); 1 mbar ≈ 10.2 mmH₂O.
- Accuracy and currency are not guaranteed; use the current edition of the standard for design and purchasing decisions. How the library is compiled →
