Cathodic electrocoating (KTL, e-coat)
The part is dipped into a water-based epoxy paint bath and coated by electric current. Even thickness on every surface, including internal passages and corners; the Emsal standard for small wafer check valve bodies.

Surface preparation
Surface preparation: degreasing, zinc phosphate conversion coating, electrophoretic dipping, oven curing.
System and thickness
| SYSTEM | Thickness µm | Coats | Curing / process | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cathodic epoxy e-coat | 20–25 | 1 | Oven 170–180 °C | Emsal standard |
| E-coat + powder topcoat | 20–25 + 60–80 | 2 | Two curing cycles | For UV resistance outdoors |
Thickness as dry film (µm). Emsal standard; binding values are set by the order specification.
Service temperature
Typically up to 120 °C. Being epoxy-based, it chalks under UV.
Media suitability GENERAL TREND
Emsal assessment. The final choice is made from corrosion tables, taking concentration, temperature, chloride content and flow velocity into account.
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- Even thickness including internal surfaces and passages
- Very well suited to series production, economical
- Good corrosion resistance with the phosphate interlayer
Weaknesses
- Thin film: limited on its own in severe environments
- Chalks under UV (a topcoat is recommended outdoors)
- Bath size limits part size
Manufacturing and use
- ECONOMY
- Low.
