Features
03Operation
- The sensing element (usually a paddle, flap or probe) is inserted into the pipe perpendicular to the flow.
- When the medium flows, the element is deflected and triggers a mechanical or electronic switch.
- When the flow passes a set threshold, the switch operates (e.g. a pump starts or an alarm is triggered).
- Available with ON/OFF or analogue output.
Advantages
- Simple installation: fitted directly through a tapped connection on the pipe.
- Low cost: an economical way to detect flow.
- Suitable for large pipes: works well in large-diameter water lines.
- Rugged: stainless steel, bronze or plastic housings for chemical resistance.
Applications
- HVAC systems: monitoring the cooling water circuit
- Water treatment: filtration and pump systems
- Food industry: flow control in washing lines
- Power generation: circuit water flow monitoring
Considerations
- Set the installation angle and insertion depth correctly.
- Choose the flow threshold to suit the application; a wrong setting causes false switching.
- With particle-laden liquids the paddle can jam; regular maintenance may be needed.
