Features
03Operation
- The positioner follows the signal from the control system: 3–15 psi (0.2–1 bar) on pneumatic models, 4–20 mA on electro-pneumatic models.
- A mechanical feedback lever connected to the valve reports the actual position to the positioner.
- If there is a deviation, the positioner adjusts the air supply to the actuator and corrects the valve opening.
- The valve is thus held at the required opening, keeping process variables such as flow, pressure or temperature under control.
Advantages
- High precision: the valve settles exactly at the required position
- Fast response: reacts immediately to process changes
- Pneumatic model: no electrical components; suitable for explosive atmospheres
- Modularity: works with mechanical or electro-pneumatic systems
Applications
- Chemical and petrochemical plants
- Water treatment and distribution systems
- Food and pharmaceutical production lines
- Power plants
- HVAC systems
- Marine and ship machinery
- Fire-fighting and safety systems
Considerations
- Use clean, dry air; moist or oily air can damage the nozzle system.
- Choose a mounting kit and feedback lever that match the valve.
- Periodic calibration is required; the setting must not drift.
- Ambient conditions (vibration, temperature, dust) can affect positioner performance.
