Features
03Design
- Connection: butt-welded to the pipeline.
- The two ends differ in size: large → small.
- Manufacture: seamless – for high pressures and temperatures; welded – for economical applications.
- Ends are bevelled for butt welding.
Advantages
- Makes branching the line easy.
- Leak-tight and mechanically strong.
- Withstands vibration and pressure.
- Manufactured to standards such as ASME B16.9, DIN 2616-1/2 and EN 10253.
Considerations
- Eccentric reducers are installed flat side up in pump suction lines to avoid air pockets, and flat side down in lines that need to drain.
- Concentric reducers taper symmetrically; they are preferred in vertical lines and on the pump discharge side.
- NDT after welding (radiography, ultrasonic testing) is recommended.
- Select with flow direction, slope and process requirements in mind.
| Reducer type | Description | Application |
|---|---|---|
| Concentric | Symmetrical taper from large to small | Vertical lines, pumps, boiler outlets |
| Eccentric | Bottom or top in line; asymmetrical | Horizontal lines, drainage systems |
