Notes
- This table has been compiled by Emsal from the relevant standards. For the full text of the standard, refer to your national standards body.
- Why it is used: on stainless steel lines the flange can be carbon steel with only the collar in stainless, which reduces cost. Because the flange rotates, the bolt holes are easy to align during installation.
- Connection dimensions (D, k, holes) are the same as the slip-on flange of the same PN and DN. Values are identical in two independent sources; cells left blank are where the sources differ.
- Flange bore B and collar bore d5 are given for the ISO pipe outside diameter (d1).
- Accuracy and currency are not guaranteed; use the current edition of the standard for design and purchasing decisions. How the library is compiled →
Dimension letters
| D | Flange outside diameter | d4 | Collar outside diameter (sealing face) |
| k | Bolt circle diameter | d5 | Collar bore |
| b | Flange thickness | h3 | Collar thickness |
| B | Flange bore | d1 | Pipe outside diameter |
Joint type and P&ID symbol
The collar is welded to the pipe; the loose flange sits free on the pipe and bears against the back of the collar. Only the collar and the pipe are in contact with the medium.

- Slip the flange onto the pipe, then weld the collar to the pipe end.
- Rotate the flange to align the bolt holes with the mating flange.
- Place the gasket between the collar faces and tighten the bolts in a cross pattern.
Reduces cost on stainless lines because the flange can be carbon steel. Makes assembly easier where joints are opened often and hole alignment is difficult.
P&ID: Flanged jointTwo short heavy lines perpendicular to the pipeline; the flange type is not shown on the diagram but given in the line list. Symbol library →
