CuSn10-C · tin bronze

STANDARDEN 1982FORMCastingFormer DING-CuSn10 · 2.1050ASTM B505C90500 / C90700 (near)

Bronze with 10% tin. Higher strength and wear resistance than Rg5; being lead-free, it is used for seawater and drinking water fittings, bushings and seat rings.

EN 1982 · sand casting (GS)130—≥ 2501870 HB
EN 1982 · continuous casting (GC)170—≥ 2801080 HB

Minimum values by casting method. The last column is Brinell hardness.

Service temperature

Same family as CC491K (tin bronze). Pressure rating drops above 120 °C.

This is the limit of the material itself. A valve's service temperature is usually set by the seal and seat materials; product pages give it for each seal option.

Emsal assessment. The final choice is made from corrosion tables, taking concentration, temperature, chloride content and flow velocity into account.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Good corrosion and erosion resistance in seawater
  • High wear resistance: bushings and seats
  • Lead-free

Weaknesses

  • More expensive and harder to machine than Rg5
  • Risk of stress corrosion in ammonia and caustics

Manufacturing and use

ECONOMY
High; depends on the tin price.
MANUFACTURING METHODS
