Features
03Operation
- A float moves freely inside a vertically mounted plastic tube.
- As the fluid flows upwards, the float rises to a height where it is balanced by the flow.
- The flow rate is read directly from the float position against the calibrated scale on the tube.
- The relationship between flow rate and float height is not linear, but calibration ensures accurate readings.
Advantages
- Simple mechanism: few moving parts, easy to operate, practically maintenance-free.
- Visual monitoring: operators read the flow rate directly on the tube.
- Light and corrosion-resistant: plastics such as PVC, PEEK or polycarbonate allow use with chemicals.
- Low cost: an affordable choice for basic measurement needs.
Applications
- Laboratories: monitoring chemical and gas flows
- Water treatment: dosing and filtration control
- Food industry: metering pure water or flavourings
- Pharmaceutical industry: monitoring solvent and solution flows
Considerations
- The float is delicate and must be protected from impact.
- Vertical, straight installation is essential; tilting causes measuring errors.
- The tube may cloud over time and become harder to read; regular checks are recommended.
- Suitable for clean liquids only; solids can damage the float.
