Longitudinal specimen. ReH decreases with thickness: 16–40 mm 225 · 40–100 mm 215 · 100–150 mm 195. Rm for 3–100 mm. KV ≥ 27 J (+20 °C).

Service temperature

A structural steel; it does not appear in the normative pressure-temperature tables of EN 1092-1. The impact test is at +20 °C. For high pressure and temperature, choose a pressure vessel steel such as P265GH.

This is the limit of the material itself. A valve's service temperature is usually set by the seal and seat materials; product pages give it for each seal option.

Emsal assessment. The final choice is made from corrosion tables, taking concentration, temperature, chloride content and flow velocity into account.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • The most economical steel
  • Easy to weld and machine
  • Available in every size

Weaknesses

  • Corrosion protection (paint, coating) is essential
  • Not a pressure equipment steel

Manufacturing and use

ECONOMY
Very low.
